Thoughts

It seems like I have been severely slacking in the blogging department. What with working full time and going to school full time it seems like I have little time to blog, read or even watch tv for that matter.

Not too much new, wild and exciting going on with us right now. We both just had 4 days off and went to visit Hubs family up island. It was so nice to get away for a few days and see some family. I haven't been up to see Hubs family since May of last year (time has flown by so fast) and we were definitly overdue for a visit.

It was also really nice to see Hubs grandmother. She now lives on her own since her husband passed away last June. It was so nice to be able to brighten her day by visiting and having tea with her. We brought her a care package with goodies in it (such as oranges, apple sauce, soup, cookies, carrots, spaghetti, etc) and made her day by bringing her chinese food.

For Valentine's Day, Hubs and I both had the night off (normally we work opposite shifts) and decided to have a quiet night in. We cooked enchiladas (thanks pinterest) and they were awesome! Since we are going to Mexico, we decided to have a low key Valentine's Day this year.

On Sunday we decided to go to the local home show (which ended up being kind of crappy) but we did get some info for sunrooms, blinds and a landscaper. After the show we decided to go for supper since we were downtown anyway. Hubs friends had recomended a place called Pig BBQ Joint so we decided to go. The food was pretty good (think pulled pork, deep friend mac and cheese, baked beans and corn bread). They served the food on a tray (no plates) with wax paper on top of the tray. I would definitly go back, although I didn't exactly enjoy the cramped tables (you couldnt move without bumping into other chairs).

Happy Valentine's Day!

Wishing everyone a very Happy Valentine's Day. This year Hubs and I both work morning shift today, which means we both have the night off!! I'm soo excited to actually spend Valentine's Day with him for once on actual Valentine's Day.

Goodbye Penny

Today is a sad day in Canadian history, the distribution of our penny ends.

It costs $0.016 cents to make a penny and when a penny is only worth $0.01 it doesn't make much cents to continue making them.

According to the Mint, the penny remain legal tender and can still be used for purchases or exchanged at financial institutions.

If you are paying cash at a retailer now the final amount will be rounded:

If something costs $1.01 or $1.02 the price will go down to $1.
$1.03 or $1.04 the price will go up to $1.05

History of the Penny:

* Canada's first penny was struck by the British Royal Mint in London in 1858.
* There have been five distinct designs of Canadian pennies:
         1) 1858-1910 - maple leaves on a vine
         2) 1911-1920 - maple leaves on a vine with the word 'Canada'
         3) 1920-1936 - two maple leaves
         4) 1967 - Centennial design featuring a rock dove
         5) 1937-2012 - maple twig design by G.E. Kruger-Gray.

* From 1982 to 1996, the shape of the penny was changed from perfectly round to 12-sided.
* Until 1996, pennies were made mostly of copper. Since 1997, pennies have been made of copper-   plated zinc or copper-plated steel.
* Each penny weighs 2.35 grams, roughly the same as a small hummingbird.
* Since 1908, 35 billion pennies have been minted. Stacked up, they would be 52,600 km high or almost as high as 100,000 CN Towers. Side by side, the pennies would circle the Earth 16 times. That number of pennies would weigh almost twice as much as the ill-fated Titanic.
* Most valuable penny is the 1936 'dot', which is supposed to be worth more than $400,000. There are only three known specimens.
* The last Canadian penny was made on May 4, 2012.

It's February

It's February! January has come and gone so fast. I've been super busy with work and school I don't feel like I get a chance to blog as much right now.

Valentine's Day is coming up pretty quick (10 days to be exact). Hubs and I might go for dinner since we both actually have that night off!

We booked another trip to Mexico! This time my family is coming with us. I can't wait for the sun, sand and water for 2 weeks. We are trying a new resort so I hope all goes well lol (you know our track record with trying new resorts isn't so good).

So many babies are going to be born in the next few months. Between people I know in person and in the blogger world its pretty crazy!
