10 Day Challenge.... 10 Secrets

I found this blog challenge over at Mommy Musings blog and thought I would give it a try. Feel free to take part in the challenge.

Day 1 is 10 Secrets:

{one} I had my wisdom teeth taken out a a couple days before Christmas break during my grade 12 year of high school. This had to of been the worst timing ever, I spent my first few days of Christmas break getting better.

{two} Whenever I'm out shopping and I pass by a baby section I always stop and have a quick look. Sometimes I'll pick something up if its absolutely adorable and a deal I couldn't pass up.
{three} I'm not really 5'1', I'm actually 5'0.5' but refuse to agree with my Dr. That extra half inch makes a difference.
{four} I'm horrible at keeping secrets. If it involves Hub's I want to tell him as soon as I can.
{five} I love facebook stalking my friends facebook pages. I reconnected with friends I knew back in junior high and everyso often I will check out their facebook pics to see whats new in their lives. Don't worry, I don't do it every second of everyday and I am friends with these people on facebook.

{six} I HATE cleaning the bathroom, just hate it, give me any other chore or job to do and I'm fine with it.
{seven} I love staying home. Don't get me wrong, I love going out and and seeing/doing things but nothing beats coming home and getting in my PJ's and cozying up with Hubs in a blanket especially in the winter.

{eight} I hate most seafood even though I grew up by the Ocean.
{nine} The Bachelor/Bachelorette is one of my favorite shows, along with Desperate houswives and Grey's Anatomy.
{ten} I've never gotten in trouble with the law, heck I don't recall ever getting in trouble in school

Catch-up post....

It's been a few days since I've last posted, time just seems to go by way to quick. One of the biggest updates I have is our home reno's are finally done!!!!! I'm so excited that we wont have to deal with construction anymore and we can start putting our finishing touches into those spaces. I promise there will be pictures to comes once the finishing touches are added.

Last Wed all the terms at my job (including myself) got termination papers. I know I mentioned we all had to reapply for our jobs and since they won't know by the 30 day timeframe to say who did/didn't recieve a job, they gave us all our 30 day notice that our contracts won't be extended past June 30th. Right now, I'm kinda going back and forth on how I feel about this. Obviously, no one wants to lose their job, but it was never my ideal job and I often wonder if its just Karma's way of telling me I need to move on to bigger and better things. Don't get me wrong, I still worry about trying to find another job and our monthly payments but the thought of spending the summer on EI is also a little tempting..... and we wont be hurting to much if I don't have an income right away. Hub's income can keep us afloat for our lifestyle now minus eating out and a few luxury buys.

Another reason why I'm so excited the reno's are done is my grandparents and one of my Aunts will be visiting from across the country. They get here tomorrow afternoon and I couldn't be more excited. I haven't seen my grandparents since Hub's and I got married last summer and its been at least 5 years since I've seen my Aunt. My Aunt has never been here so it will be fun showing her around and showing them all our new pride and joy.... the house.

On another note.... baby fever is still around. There are so many people around me who are expecting this fall its crazy. Many of of blogger friends are having babies. At work alone, a coworker is due in Sept, a cook's wife is due in Nov, my boss's wife is due in late summer, another cook's wife is due again this Dec (yes she just had her 2nd last Dec) and another of my coworkers is going to be a grandma in Nov. Thats 5 new babies to be expected this fall alone... or possibly 6. My coworker goes for her ultrasound tomorrow to find out if its twins and possibly the sex(s). Hub's and I have talked about it and obviously with my impending job loss, right now isn't an ideal time to have a baby. Hub's also wants to wait until we have been in the house for a year so that we know we will be ok with all the payments, we can get our reno's done and just enjoy a little more us time. I totally understand where he is coming from and don't want to rush because once we have a kid its ours. We would like to take another trip to mexico and possibly another one with a couple of his friends somewhere else. We would also like to reno our kitchen cupboards, update the main bathroom and paint/put new carpeting in the 2 other bedrooms. So for now I will bask myself in all the new babies to be and look at all the cute baby stuff out there.

On another note I have a wedding ring story I have to tell you all in another post.....

Long Weekend Gardening

It's a long weekend here and I am lucky enough to have this weekend off even though I do work the Holiday Monday (Which is fine by me since I get double time pay!!). Yesterday a coworker of mine came over and helped me tackle our badly over grown garden in the front yard. The garden had been neglected by the previous owner for probably the last year so when we bought the house in March, the garden definitly needed some TLC. Between working so much and the cold, rainy weather, Hub's and I didn't get much of a chance to get out and weed. Earlier in the week, I decided it had to get done, so I asked for the help of a coworker who loves gardening, to come over and at least help us get the garden in some sort of shape that will allow me to care for it a lot easier. My coworker did an amazing job. She was here for 6 hrs and got a garbage can full of weeds and then some. She helped identify many of the plants we have, as well as trimmed back an old dead shrub, cleaned our shed and prunned back our blueberry bush. If it wasnt for here I don't think the garden would ever look like it does now. It still needs a little refining work but it looks 100x better then it did. I'm hoping to get back out there today for a little and do a little fine tuning.

Hope everyone else is having a great weekend or longweekend.

Who knew furniture takes vacations

We ordered our new dining room table set the middle of last month and they said it would take about a month to get here. Well, the other day we noticed we still hadn't received a call saying it was in so Hubs decided to go in and find out what was going on. Apparently when our table was shipped out from where it was made someone made a mistake in reading the shipping form and sent our table to CHINA and not Canada. So now our wonderful table is sitting somewhere in China and not in our dining room. They said we should hopefully receive it in the middle of June. Here's hoping it doesn't get sent somewhere else....

Days off...

The reno's are finally just about done. The contractor has almost completed everything on my to do list :) All thats left to do is a little bit of finishing touches in our masterbathroom and thats it. I'm so excited that we are near finished, especially since its been going on for over 2 months now. Also, we have family coming at the end of the month so it will be nice to have everything finished to show off when they visit and the house won't be a construction zone.

I had the last 2 days off with Hubs and we definitly kept busy. Yesterday we went to Vancouver for the day and did some shopping at Ikea and Metrotown Mall. We picked up a great little piece from Ikea. Originally I wanted the one piece with 8 cubbies in it, but Hub's suggested we go with the 2 smaller 4 cubby one's. It was the same price either way, but Hub's said this way we can break them up or move them around easier. We also picked up a rubber backing for under our living room mat so it won't move around, a wooden train set and heart twin dovet cover my my step daughters bed and a few mirrors that we put on the wall above our new ikea furniture piece. I will have to take pics and post them when we have daylight.

Today was such a nice sunny day that we decided to take advantage of it and get some yardwork and unpacking done. Hubs and I finally packed away some stuff and put it down in our crawlspace now that its done. While Hub's went out and mowed the lawn I did some more unpacking inside. I moved some furniture around and set up the spare guest room. I unpacked the majority of the boxes left in our room and a couple more in my step-daughters room. In total I think I unpacked another 15 boxes today :)

Canucks Won!!

Woohoo, even though I'm not much of a hockey fan (this is my first hockey post) I just had to express my happiness that the Canucks won their game against Nashville. This means Nashville is out and the Canucks move on to the next round. Go Canucks Go!!

Day Trip to the Beach

Even though its still much to cold to be going to the beach here, Hub's and I decided to take a day trip to Sombrio beach with some friends of ours. Sombrio beach is has always been one of our favorite day trips and we hadn't been there in almost a year. It's not so much a swimming beach, but a rocky, hiking/exploring type beach with caves and camping, complete with a suspension bridge. We spent the day exploring, and built a little fire on the beach (next time we agreed we need to bring some hot dogs and marshmallows). We stopped for a later lunch at a place called the Coastal Kitchen. It's a nice little restaurant, not overly fancy but charming, cottage like decor. The food is basic but amazing. It's well known for its clam chowder as well, so if your ever in the area stop in for a cup or bowl of it.

Today Hub's was called in for overtime, so I ended up getting some time to myself to do a little tidying and cleaning up. Tomorrow I think we are going to head out and do a little shopping for some house things.

Random Thoughts......

April has come and gone and now we are into May. April ended with me finishing my 3 day first aid course at work and May started with me getting a week long vacation from work!!! Last week, I also submitted my resume and reapplied for my job. Apparently there are cutbacks and they can only keep half of us so they are running another competition and whoever is picked gets a permanent full time job out of the deal. This has me a little irked as I have been at my job for almost 3 years (with even more prior experience at my job in another location) and I have to fight against people who were just hired for one of the permanent positions.

Hubs has 13 days off so I decided to take the week off with him so we could spend some time together and just relax and venture around. Yesterday Hubs and I went up Island with my mother in law to visit Hubs' grandparents and great grandmother. We missed her 90th Birthday party the week before because we were working so we planned a day trip up for a visit and lunch together. It was a great day visiting, and I got to meet Hub's great grandmother finally. She is such a sweet lady and really funny. I also got to see some old photo albums, Hub's grandmother had of his mom and dad when they were married. It was great to see this new side of family history. Other then it being gray and rainy on our trip up it was a great day visiting family.

After we dropped Hub's mom off at home we headed back home as we were having our first official over night house guest staying with us. While we were waiting for Hub's friend to come over, our photographer came over and finally gave us our wedding album. It's absolutely gorgeous and well worth the wait. I'll have to take some pics of it and post them online for everyone to see. Our photographer also said if we picked our large portrait for him to print, he would get it professionally framed for us at no charge.

One of Hub's friends was flying out early the next day so we said he could crash at our place the night before and leave his car since we love close to the airport. We went out for supper and tried a new place called Beacon Landing Restaurant. The view from the restaurant was amazing out over the water and the atmosphere inside was really nice. The menu, however, was kinda ok. The food was good, but not outstanding and prices were a little steep for the portions and type of food they served. It was good to say we tried it, but not a restaurant we are in a rush to head back to.

Later in the evening one of Hub's coworkers came over and picked up our old corner unit computer desk. He did a trade with them so they got our desk and we are getting a bookshelf from them. It's great when you're able to swap items and get what you want without having to put out money. Plus it saved the computer desk from going out in the garbage.

This morning Hub's and I woke up bright and early as we had a car appointment at 9. Our car has been making some squeaking noises so we were taking it in to be checked out. Come to find out there were a couple other squeaks the mechanic found while on the test drive and the car required parts but luckily for us it was all under warrenty. The downside is we need to make another appointment to get the parts installed later in the week. While we were waiting for our car to be checked out we headed to the mall. Hub's bought a new video game and I picked up a mother's day card for my mom. We also picked up some floor protectors for our couch legs. Since we still had some time to kill, we headed over to Pier 1 Imports. We generally don't shop there and I haven't been in one for ages. We ended up coming home with a huge ceramic vase that was marked down from $120 to $19. Yes you read that right, we saved $100 on the vase and it will work perfect in our house. Here is a pic of the vase from the store website:

After we picked up the car we went and picked up our new vanity mirror and shelf that came in. Thursday we are going on a day trip adventure with one of Hub's coworkers and his soon to be wife.
