Royal Wedding

Yesterday was the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. I didn't get up in the early hours of the morning to watch it, I did however PVR it to watch it later in the day. The ceremony seemed to suite them, it was simple yet kept to many of the royal traditions. I liked the details of the trees as decor for the ceremony instead of flowers everywhere. The detail I really wanted to see was Kate's dress and it definitly stunned. I loved her dress, however I wish the veil would have been a little longer. Also I'm not sure how I feel about her hair being down, I almost wish it would have been up in an updo. Kate's sistes Pippa also had an amazing dress on, it was classic and simple.

Did you watch the royal wedding? If so what did you think of it?

They are awesome for someone like me who doesn't necessarily want to pay for a blog layout quite yet but wants a put together look for their blog. Check out the site, there are many options for blog templates and backgrounds.

The house progress

Hubs and I decided the other day that we need a new dining room table and now was the time to buy one. I worked until 2 yesterday and Hub's was off, so he picked me up and we went to Dodd's as they were having a huge 14hr furniture sale that ended that day. Lets just say we scored big while we were there. We went in for a dining room table and ended up buying a table and 6 chairs with a built in leaf (that hides under the table so you dont have to remove it all the time) for almost have price, a brand new bed for 70% off, a leather headboard and footboard, as well as a new mattress cover for the bed. We are so excited, our bed and head/footboard arrive tomorrow and they bring it in and set it up and the table should arrive in May. Our old bed will now go in the second bedroom and become a guestroom for the time being.

We also ran in to one of Hub's old friends while we were at the mall (They live a few hours away) so we decided to meet for breakfast today and hang out for a bit. We made plans to go up and see them in a couple months as they are expecting their first baby in July. We also got a bunch of unpacking done. We still have a ways to go but its getting better and we emptied a bunch of boxes.

Today we returned our old master bathroom vanity mirror because it was chipped and the doors were all crooked on it (it was an all glass front one). We ended up going to Andrew Sheret, which is a higher end bathroom store in our area. We planned on getting a mirrored vanity there but the cheapest ones they had were like $550 before tax, which is a lot more then we were willing to spend. We looked around some more and decided to go with a tilting round mirror  and a glass shelf for underneath. It's going to look awesome and we spent less money then we did on the cheap one.

Tomorrow we plan on doing some more unpacking and getting ready for the new bed.

9 Month Wedding Anniversary

Today is mine and Hub's 9 month wedding anniversary, time is definitly flying by fast. Just the other day Hubs and I talked about how it feels like we just got married and we are just around the corner from our first anniversary. It also got us thinking about how much we have done in less then a year:

-We got married
-Paid for our wedding (We didn't go into debt for our wedding)
-Moved into a new apt
-Bought a new dishwasher
-Bought a new washer/dryer
-Bought our home
-Paid off Hub's eye loan (Hubs had laser eye sugery)
-Paid off Hub's other loan
-Reno'd our home (added a shower to the master bath as well as new slate flooring, put hardwood throughout the rest of the house, moved our hot water tank and replaced it, had the house professionally painted, put in new baseboards, put new carpeting in our master bedroom)

Today we finally sold our portable dishwasher. We bought it new in Sept last year since we were moving to a new apt that didnt have a dishwasher. With our schedules we both knew we needed a dishwasher and off we went in seach of one. A month later it was delivered to our new apt. Literally 7 months later we ended up buying our home with a built in dishwasher and dont have the need for 2. Our dishwasher is newer and nicer then the one in our home but again we dont need 2, we dont have the room to use the other one and our kitchen tap is a hose and not a normal faucet so a portable dishwasher doesn't connect to it. So up it went for sale on a buy/sell website and it just finally sold. We are so happy because we need the money and it went to a good home. The lady who came to buy it has a daughter and was going to share their home with two other girls who were coming Tues (I think it was hosting exchange students). It was a nice story and made me feel good to know we were able to help out someone else.

What did you all get up to this weekend?

April Showers Better Bring May Flowers

We are just barely into April and I have to say I'm sick of the rain already. All it seems to do is rain, rain, rain.... all I ask for is a little sun. I'd love to be able to open the window's, let the fresh air in and get out and do some gardening in our new yard.

Reno's have come to a bit of a standstill and should be back in progress on Wed. Our contractor at least came back today and moved/hooked up our washer and dryer so at least we can do laundry now. I haven't done much else with regards to unpacking other then hanging some clothes up in our closet. On my way home from work on Sunday Hubs called me and asked me to stop and pick up something to clean our wood floors and kitchen (our poor floors looked white from all the drywall dust). In our old home we had an old school mop where you get it wet and squeeze the water out of the sponge on the bottom and clean the floors. Having the new wood floors the mop wouldn't do. I ended up stopping at Canadian Tire and looked at what they had. I ended up going with the Swiffer Wet Jet Mop. It was perfect because it didn't use large amounts of water (which we can't use on our floors) and there are various hardwood and general floor cleaners available. I picked up the swiffer wet jet kit which included 2 cleaning pads and a bottle of general floor cleaner as well as a an extra bottle of hardwood floor cleaner and a box of 24 extra pads. I brought it home and tried it out. I have to say I love it!! I used the hardwood cleaner on our hardwood and it picked the drywall dust right up, the same thing with the other cleaner in the kitchen. I used a different pad for each room because there was so much drywall dust everywhere. I'm not overly pleased that the swiffer used 4 AA batteries (at least they weren't overly expensive to purchaase), but I'm hoping they last a while. What I do enjoy is that the pads are easy to put on and remove and the cleaning bottles come specially designed so that they don't leak and can be interchanged easily. This means no measuring of the cleaning product and I just give it a quick squeeze of the button to dispense.

I need a break from all the moving and cleaning and unpacking. Just to give you an idea, I worked 7 days straight, packed/cleaned on my 2 days off, worked another day, then on my next 2 days off (which I took off from work) we moved our whole house and cleaned our old place completely. Then I went back to work for 7 days and came home to house reno's and trying to make our new home at least liveable. Now on these 2 days off I decided I needed a break from everything. I'm burnt out, I came home from work yesterday and slept most of the evening while Hubs worked. Today we went to the grocery store to pick up a few things, came home and we both had a nap. I was so tired that I didn't wake up until Hubs came and woke me up saying lunch was ready. Tomorrow Hubs and I have off together and we plan on enjoying a day of doing nothing.
