Happy New Years!!!

I can't believe today is the last day of 2010.... this year has just flown by so quickly. I married my best friend and love of my life in July, we moved into a new place in September and went on an amazing honeymoon to Mexico in November. We got to spend Christmas with Hub's family and together which is a first since we have been together (we were always working Christmas Day).

I'm super excited for New Years Eve this year. Our first year together we were stuck in an airport in Calgary trying to get home to see my family. Last year was a sad one as New Years Day I was getting on a plane to head to Winnipeg for a new job. This year neither Hubs nor I are going anywhere. We are planning a quiet night in with some good wine to ring in the New Year.

Even though I'm sad to see 2010 pass us by, I'm excited at the thoughts of what 2011 will bring us.... maybe a new house, another trip to mexico or a new exciting job. Hubs starts his new job in February :) A New Years resolution we have both made is to start going to the gym again. Are any of you making New year's resolutions?

Here's to everyone having a safe and fun last day in 2010 and I hope 2011 brings good times, memories and health to everyone. See you all back here in 2011.

Happy New Years!!!!

Best Christmas Present Ever....

This year for Christmas we got many great gifts, we had the trip to Mexico, bought a new camera, a few games, 1000 thread count sheets, etc... but our absolute favorite gift is:

Our new Dyson Stowaway Vaccuum. They were finally on sale so we bought one last night and I have to say, wow its an amazing vaccuum. It picks up everything and cleaned our area rug so well it looks new again. Did anyone else get a new Dyson for Christmas? What was your favorite present?

Merry Christmas

I know its a little late but I wanted to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas.

This year Hubs and I both got Christmas eve and Christmas Day off work (a first while being together) so we decided to go visit his family up island. The plan was simple, we would leave after I got off work, to catch the 3pm ferry. Well, everything was working out well until we got to the ferry (1 hr and a bit drive later) to find out it was cancelled. We then turned around and drove down to catch the other ferry to take the long route around. In the end instead of the 1 hr drive and a 40 min ferry we ended up driving 2 and a bit hours, a 1.5 hr ferry, a 40min ferry, an hour and 15min drive then another ferry before we finally got there. All in all it was a 12 hr adventure trying to get to the in-laws place but it was totally worth it. Oh and did I mention we did all this in a horrible rainstorm with a crazy amount of wind.

We got in around 12am on the 24th, unpacked and went to bed. When we woke up in the morning we had a quick breakfast and went to see the in-laws new campsite. It had an amazing view of the water. After that we went to visit Hubb's grandparents. His grandmother is in the hospital due to a degenerative spine and an infected bed sore on her back but she is healing and starting to have visits home.  It was so great to see them and spend time with them at Christmas. We also got to see his Aunt, a bunch of uncles and their wives and a few other friends of the family.

At 3pm Hubbs and a couple of his uncle's went to go light the Star. The Star is a family tradition that his family has been doing for almost 30 years. It starts by everyone getting together on Christmas eve, and those who are able, climb up this mountain overlooking the town and place this star with lights up and keep it lit for the next week. It's quite amazing to be able to see thos star from below and was even visible on the ferry ride home.

After putting up the Star and visiting that side of the family, we had to head back and get ready for Christmas dinner. Hubb's step-family are Danish and have Christmas Dinner on Christmas Eve. We headed over to his step-grandmother's house for an evening of good food and fun. There were 13 of us having dinner (thats with 8 others unable to make it due to the weather) and boy was it delicious. There was the traditional dinner but with extras added such as red cabbage and rice pudding for dessert. A neat tradition with the rice pudding is that an almond is mixed into the pudding and its dished out to everyone. As everyone eats they look for the almond and whoever finds it gets chocolates. This year no one found the almond (however there was a lot of pudding left). A little later in the evening we took part in another Danish tradition of dancing around the christmas tree while singing Christmas songs and a few Danish songs. Afterwords Christmas gifts were handed out and opened.

On Christmas morning, we woke up and opened a few more Christmas presents with Hubb's family. Then we had a quick bite to eat before getting ready for the Smorge. The Smorge is another Danish tradition which I absolutely love. Everyone gets together and instead of having a huge turkey dinner, its basically a buffet of pickled herring/salmon, buns, brown bread, crackers, various sliced meats/cheeses, treats, pickles/olives, etc. Then the family sits around a big table and for a few hours just shares stories and talk while eating and taking Snapps shots.

We had to leave the party a little early as we had to catch the ferry home :( We hated to leave but had such a great time with family. Once we got home we opened the last of the cards we had gotten, unpacked and got ready for bed as we both worked early the next morning.

Boxing day morning we both worked but after work we went to see Hubbs dad and stepmom. We had some wine, my favorite was the ginger beer that tasted more like a ginger champagne (which they are making) and homemade tarts.

Christmas came and went pretty fast this year, but we were able to visit with family and celebrate Christmas together. Hopefully everyone else had an enjoyable Christmas.

Work... and Work Christmas Party

Woohoo!! Yesterday was my last official day working at my workplace for this year. Every year my workplace closes for 2 weeks at Christmas and we can either take the time off work or work at another location. I decided to work at another location to earn overtime since Hubs works mostly over Christmas.

We had a cookie exchange at work on Wed and it turned out awesome. For those not familiar with a cookie exchange, you basically have a sign up sheet for everyone involved and pick a date to exchange cookies. Each person bakes a dozen cookies for each other person in the change and on the chosen date when you exchange cookies you end up with a few dozen different cookies to take home. Its a great way to try new cookies and not have to bake all the varieties at home.

After work yesterday myself and a few coworkers got together at a pub for a few Christmas drinks. It was great to get together with just those from my workplace and enjoy a little downtime.

Last night was my work Christmas party. In the past, I haven't gone to work Christmas parties but last night after coworkers saying me and Hubs should go we decided to go. Poor Hubs wasn't feeling very good, but did go to the party for a bit. I'm glad he was able to go even if it was only for a short time. I have to say I enjoyed the party, there was a great turn out and it was nice to see coworkers from all different workplaces within the organizations getting together and having a good time. I also had a little luck last night as well. I won the 50/50 draw (thanks to Hubs buying the tickets before he left) and a bottle of Bailey's. All in all it was a great way to start the Christmas holiday season.

It's December, finally....

Well, it has been December for almost 10 days now but i've been a little behind in posting.... again. We are just about ready for Christmas. We have our decorations, lights and tree up. Most of our Christmas cards are ready to be mailed out and a few have already been sent. We aren't going crazy with gifts this year as we just went on our honeymoon and bought a new digital camera before the trip. Since we have been back, we bought new silverware to replace the stuff that isn't working out so well. Hubs and I are planning on just getting some things to go in each other's Socks. In other exciting news Hubs and I have been married for 5 months tomorrow!! I can't believe how quickly time is flying by, soon it will be 6 months and before you know it, it will be our first Anniversary. How is everyone else's Christmas preparations going?

Catch up post

Time sure is flying and the blogging hasn't picked up either. I've faithfully been reading everyone else's blogs everyday or every other day but leaving mine lagging behind. There is one really good reason why I haven't posted in so long. Hubs and I finally went on our honeymoon!!!! Thats right and I'm so excited to be able to share it with everyone now.

We left on Nov 15 for the Maya Riviera in Mexico, and just came back on the 23rd. We had such a great time and definitly recommend it to anyone looking for a great honeymoon idea or even a nice getaway vacation. It was our first vacation outside of North America and we cant wait to plan our next trip away. Even though we were gone for 7 nights/8 days we ran out of time. We did so many activities while we were there. We visited and Climbed Coba, seen Tulum, Chichen Itza and got to swim with dolphins. Two of those excursions were full day trips and the other 2 were half day so it really only left is with 2 days to sit and relax on the beautiful white sand turquoise water beaches. I did manage to get a sunburn though which is turning into a nice tan.

We stayed in Puerta Aventuras which is about an hour out of Cancun at a resort called The Catalonia Yucatan Beach Resort and Spa. It was a 4 ****(star) resort and was beautiful in our opinion. The packaged we got was all inclusive-airfare, hotel, food and drinks, plus many activities within the resort and it came in at just over $1500 so we definitly got quite a steal on our honeymoon. We don't have any other resorts to compare this one to but based on having stayed at other hotels before we would definitly recommend it. The resort itself is only 400 rooms which is a lot smaller then the average resort in the Maya Riviera area and a great way to get into the all inclusive thing without being overwhelmed with people. Being November, it wasn't overly busy which was nice, and so we got to meet many people while there. This resort is kid/family friendly and even has a kids club where parents can put there kids during the day to be able to enjoy activities on their own. I know many people don't like kid/family friendly resorts because they want the adult only thing but really, we hardly noticed kids there, and when we did it was by the pools and not really anywhere else.

The food was awesome and the choices endless as there were many different restaurants we could try. The restaurants included 2 buffets (one had theme night dinners), a Mexican restaurant, Italian restaurant, Japanese restaurant, Tapas Lounge, Snack Bar (had a small buffet of basic foods such as fruits, burgers and hot dogs, fries, fajitas, etc), and a dessert Restaurant. Each restaurant had a bar as well as there being 5 others bars on the resort, two of which were swim up bars in pools. The drinks were awesome and free flowing from 7am until 2 am the next day.

Our resort also had a couple of shops, a Theatre (live shows nightly), an infirmary, a sports bar, a disco, a photo center where they took pictures of people around the resort and you could order copies of yours, a gym, an amazing spa, sports activities, snorkling, Catamaran, kayaking as well as beach volleyball and Bocce. When we checked into the resort we were given $40 in Spa dollars to be redeemed on any massage over 50min. We ended up using the dollars on a 50min couples massage. Hubs got a deep tissue massage and I got a relaxation massage. It was my first ever real massage and I greatly enjoyed it. Before our spa treatment we had access to the Sauna, mineral pool and another pool woth different jets and water features. As well as the lounge area serving teas, water and fruit. All in all, I would have to say our spa experience was greatly enjoyed and it was reasonably priced even before our Spa dollar discount. The total of our massages after discount was $118 which I thought for a resort spa, was quite reasonable.

We didn't end up getting over to cozumel or Playa Del Carmen, but plan on it when we got back to Mexico. We were a little disappointed we ran out of time to do these things but Hubs said it just gives us a reason to return. All in all, we had an amazing time and are definitly planning a return trip back, hopefully sometime soon. I'm having a bit of an issue getting pics posted so I promise to post them in the next day or so.

Remembrance Day

I just wanted to say thank you to all the soldiers who fought for our freedom and everything we have today. My thoughts and prayers are with all those currently away fighting as well. Please take the time today to remember all those who gave up so much so we could live so lucky today. Thank you.

Thrift Store score

I stopped by a thrift store by our place today on the way home to check out what they had. They didn't have a huge selection, nor was it the best thrift store I have ever been to. As I was walking around I happened to check out the glassware and there on a shelf were 2 Glass Z-stem Martini glasses that I have been wanting forever. I first seen them at my MIL's place when she used them to serve caramel sauce with fresh fruit over the summer. They are so cute and great for entertaining. You can pick them up from walmart or other houseware stores for roughly $15 for a pack of 4. I found 2 for $0.75 each which is a deal in itself but when I looked up there was a sign saying all pink price tags 50% off so I scored both glasses for $0.64 :)

Accolades and a brief review of the week

Another week has come and gone already. Last week I worked an extra 8 hrs for a work function and since I went back to work yesterday I have been receiving many thanks for the amount of work I put in (I went above and beyond what I was supposed to do and even did some of the duties of the supervisor). I have been doing these types of functions for a while and so I know what to expect and how to run them. I also really enjoy the type of job it is. Basically I'm serving (with the help of other servers) a 5-8 course dinner to 100+ people after having set the tables up with all the glassware, dinnerware, etc. This time was different because I actually did a lot of prep work, made the salads, appetizer and part of the dessert myself. The only thing I didnt do was actually cook any of the items.

On Wednesday, I was on another computer course. I'm trying to get on as many courses as I can so I can further my skills to move up in careers eventually. Next week I'm going on a career planning course, which I'm very excited about to see what I can learn and take away to help me advance in my career.

Other then that, not to much new happened this week. We went out to Applebee's for supper the other night. It just opened here and we have been wanting to try it for a while. I'm not sure if we were just pumped up to try it or what but we really weren't all that impressed. It's not that the food wasn't good (the fries did come out cold, even though the plates and the rest of the meal was hot), it just wasn't amazing. The menu wasn't one in which I have to go back a few times to try all the yummy different food they had to offer, instead we found it was a generic menu which we could find at any fast food restaurant. The atmosphere was nice, except for the cramped amount of tables and the best part was my white peach sangri...yum, yum :) which came to me in a HUGE glass (Hubs even asked them if it was their regular size, he thought they brought me a super sized one)

Oh and the weather is definitly cooling off here. This weekend I'm planning on digging out my thin gloves and headband for those chilly morning I'm heading to work at 5am. We've had frost already once last week and everyone is saying we are in for a cold snowy winter. Which is abnormal for here, last year it was warm and no snow at all.

Hope everyone has a great weekend :)

Busy Busy Busy

When I first started blogging I thought I would be on here blogging everyday, well thats definitly not the case. I do come on and read my favorite blogs everyday but need to work on a better posting routine. This past week has definitly been super busy. I worked the last 7 days straight, including Friday when I worked from 5:30am until midnight. The overtime made it worth it though.

Hubs and I have tomorrow off together which I'm super excited about since we both work shift work and lately it seems like the only time we see one another is through a quick hi in our passing. Hubs has a quick business meeting tomorrow, which means I get to do a little mall shopping, yay!! I'm hoping I find a nice pair of boots for the fall. Other then that, we are having an us day and I'm quite excited about having supper together.

The other night Hubs and I decided to go out for supper. There is a new restaurant a few friends have talked about called Original Joes that we decided to try out. We got there around 7 and it was pretty packed (It's still pretty new) but we were seated right away. The atmosphere was nice and there was a candle on each table. My only complaint was that it was a little too open, you could look across the entire room and see everything. I think a few plants or  a couple dividers would have been nice. We ordered some salt and pepper wings as an appie. Hubs got a beer and I ordered a 1/2 L of wine. For supper I ordered a Saignon Sub and Hubs got a Beef Dip. The portions were HUGE and we were stuffed by the time we were done eating so we didnt get dessert.

I also have to say a couple of congratulations. My old university friend welcomed her daughter Elise into the world 2 weeks ago and my coworker became a grandmother to her grand-daughter Jayda a couple days later.

Thats it for now, I promise to be a better blogger and I'll get around to posting our wedding details.

Happy 10.10.10

Yep, you read that right. Today is October 10, 2010 or 10.10.10. Just like certain dates in the past (07.07.07 or 08.08.08), its an extremely popular date for weddings this year. In fact, some says its the busiest day for weddings this year. According to Chinese interpretation, today is supposed to be the perfect day according to the article: http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/298758. Hubs and I actually considered it as our wedding date, but in the end decided to go with 07.10.10 due to family having to travel across the country and younger kids being in school in October. Congratulations to all the brides to be out there today.

3 Month Wedding Anniversary

Today is Hubs and mine 3 month wedding anniversary. I can't believe it has been 3 months already. I love you so much Hubs xoxox

Happy Thanksgiving

Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy and Safe Thanskgiving with friends and family.

Babies... Babies...Babies

Fall is in the air and so is the abundance of new little arrivals. From the blogs I follow three women have had little ones in the last couple weeks. A coworker of mine had a little one 5 months ago, another coworker had a little one 2 months ago. Currently at work, one of my coworkers will become a grandma any day now and an old University friend is due in 2 weeks. It seems like there has definitly been something in the water lately with all the new little ones coming into the world or soon to be arriving. I just wanted to say congratulations to all the new moms and moms to be out there.

Now that Hubs and I are married, we started getting the "when are you going to have kids" question. To be honest, I'm definitly feeling a little bit of baby fever and would love to have a little one. At the same time, its nice enjoying being a newlywed with my Hubs and just experiencing married life. I do have a 4 year old step daughter who we see part times who I adore and does curb the baby fever at times (Hubs and I have a few goals we would like to complete before adding a new addition. First, we want to pay off some loans we have on the go, be a bit more established in our careers and the biggest of all is buying a house. Right now we live in a 2 bedroom townhome that we rent but to add to our family we would need at least 3 bedrooms. To rent a 3 bedroom is atrocious so it would make more sense to just buy a place of our own to raise our family. Unfortunately, we don't live in a cheap part of the country. The average price of a house here is $450,000 and that isn't for anything overly special. Our hopes is to purchase a house within the next year and go from there....

Where does the time go??

I have been super busy with working and getting the new place organized that I haven't even thought about blogging. I've been keeping up with my favorite blogs but just not writing anything until today when I realized I haven't posted since August 25th. Fall is quickly approaching on us and I'm sooo excited that we will soon be able to bring out the fall clothes. Don't get me wrong, I love summer and everything that goes along with it; but there's something to be said about the color changes, the new smells in the air and the comfort fall clothes bring. My most favorite part of fall is pumpkin. I absolutely love pumpkin, pumpkin pie, loaf, muffins, etc. You bake it with pumpkin and I'm loving it. Last weekend, to kickstart the fall season I decided to make a pumpkin muffin recipe I came across in my local grocery store food magazine. It was such a super easy recipe. All the ingredients were easily found in the cupboard (I didn't add the pecans or raisins) and they tasted delicious. You can also easily change up the type of nuts, or add chocolate chips or dried cranberries. I even made the applesauce myself.

Moving, oh how I hate thee

So we found out today that we will be able to move into our new place August 30th instead of September 1st. We are both super excited, since it will give us a little more time to move things to our new apartment, as well as time to clean the old one.

Even though I'm excited to be moving, I'm a little unexcited as well. I mean its the first place Hubs and I lived together in, we got engaged and married while living there as well so its full of memories. Hubs keeps telling me that its the memories that matter and not the house, and how we will create new memories in the place we are moving to. This definitly cheers me up, along with thinking about how we will now be living in a 2 level townhome with 1.5 bathrooms. Also, the fact that I get to do a little shopping to buy a few new things for the new place is definitly exciting (we need a few things for the extra bathroom and some cute lights for our decks).

Hubs also has a few friends coming to help us move (yay!!) so I won't have to help move all the boxes and furniture. I get to stay behind and clean and pack the last minute things.

Our last few days have basically consisted of packing and cleaning, with a little relaxation thrown in yesterday (Hubs and I had the day off together which doesn't happen often) Last night Hubs took me for an ice cream date to Dairy Queen after a busy day of packing. It was nice to get out and have a mini date, especially when ice cream was involved.

Citrus Squeezer

Something I completely forgot to blog about in my last post is the newest kitchen tool we purchased over the weekend, a citrus squeezer. I have to say it's probably one of the best tools ever invented and one every kitchen should have if you use lemons or limes. I have been looking for months for one of these and most stores didn't carry them, let alone understand what they were (the majority of stores thought I was talking about a citrus zester). I finally came across it at Stokes when we were shopping on Sat. I was able to pick it up for $10, which to me was a deal considering I've never even seen one in a store until now. Even when I talked to the cashier, she said they had just gotten them in earlier that week and that they would sell out quick once people realized they were there. I definitly recommend you pick one up if you use lemons or limes.

Time is flying

I can't believe how quickly time is flying by, it seems so long ago that I wrote my last post here. Besides being busy working (who isn't) we found out earlier this week that we got the apt we applied for which means we will be MOVING at the end of this month!!. We are both super excited to be moving to the new place. Not only is it closer to where I work, but it's also a 2 level townhouse with 1.5 bathrooms and insuite laundry. Right now we are renting a one level place that has just outgrown us. I'm kind of dreading the whole packing part, but excited to be able to redecorate our new place.

The weather here the last couple days has been soo hot. It's been in the 30's (oC not oF) and looks to be staying that way until at least tuesday. Yesterday we decided to take a day trip and just get out of the house. We did a little shopping (preshopping for decor idea for our new apt) and had lunch at Earls courtesy a gift card I received at my bachelorette party. Hubs had the Los Cabos Chicken Taco's and I had the Cajun Chicken Cheddar Sandwich. Once our meal came we decided to split it so we could sample a little of what each other had. I must say it was one of the better meals I've had out in a long time. Food was excellent and the service was great.

We decided to head up to Coombs and along the way seena sign for the Coombs fair, which we thought was an added bonus as we had no idea it was going on. Coombs is a great little day adventure to a little market witha  bunch of shops surrounding it. You can buy everything from homemade breads, desserts, a huge assortment of cheeses, to Asian pottery and household items including antiques and things for the garden. What i love most about this place is how you can find such unique things that you generally can only find in a specialty store and that its like a flea market. We ended up buying a drink to cool off and some Jalepeno cheddar cheese brear to bring home. Another cool feature of this place is that the roof of the main building is grassy and there are actually goats that live on the roof. It ended up being so hot that we left early and decided to go grab an ice cream to help beat the heat. We decided to stop in at Dairy Queens for a cone but ended up getting a Blizzard after I seen they had the Brownie Batter Blizzard on the menu (its a tough one to find on the menu and often just a month feature once in a blue moon). Afterwords hubs and I packed it in and headed home.

Today we plan on getting a good head start on packing our current apt up. Hope everyone is having a great weekend so far.

Catch up post

Holy moly, the week is flying by as its already Thursday. Tuesday night hubs and I went to see Inception and it was a great movie. Definitly lives up to all the hype its been getting. If you haven't seen it yet then definitly go watch it.

Last night we we're invited over to Hubs dad's and stepmom's for supper. We hadnt seen them since about a week after our wedding so it was nice to be able to spend time with them. We had steak, baked potatoes and salad out on their patio and a homemade English Triffle for dessert. We also brought over a bottle of our wedding wine to have with dinner. It was a great night and I finally got to meet my new step brother who was down visiting from Quebec.

Hubs started a business back in January and with all the rush and business of wedding planning he put it on the backburner for a bit. Now that our wedding is over he is getting back into the business with full force and doing quite well. If you're interested in checking it out there is a link at the top of my blog.

I promise I'm going to get onto posting about the wedding when I have a little more free time. I'm thinking i might do a comparison post. Meaning I will post what my planning was and how all the planning turned out on the actual wedding day.

So ends another weekend and the start of a new month

Where did the weekend go?? I had the weekend off with hubs (which is a rarity) and even though we didn't do anything crazy and adventurous we did have a nice quiet relaxing weekend at home with no alarm clocks or places to be at a certain time. Friday night we sleep in the tent in the yard again (We've been doing this for the past week). Early saturday morning we awoke to the heat in the tent from the sun. We decided to go out and buy some new fish for our tank. It was time to give the 3 fish we had a few new friends. We ended up buying 3 zebra danios, 1 gourmi, and a rubber lip plecostamous.

Today is August 1st already!!. I can't believe July is here and gone already and hubs and I will soon have been married a month already. Time is definitly flying by. Today we had a lounge around the house type of day since we don't really get those too often with us both working shift work. Hubs made a huge omlette for brunch. Then we decided to have a cup of tea and try out our new electric kettle. Hubs had a chai spice tea with steamed milk and I tried the cranberry raspberry tea i picked up at the grocery store the other day (I'm not much of a coffee or tea drinker but am trying to get more into tea). I LOVED this tea, it was the perfect blend, not to strong or bitter and could be drank either hot or as an iced tea. I definitly think I'm going to be drinking a bit more tea now. I'm also excited because a few friends and family started sending us some wedding pics :) And our photographer Pete Snell sent us a few teasers. We can't wait to see the rest of them. Once we recieve them I'll post a few and some details of our wedding.

Tomorrow is a holiday here in Canada, but I'm working by choice. I couldn't turn down getting paid double time and a half and use it towards time off for later in the year (possible for when we decide to go on our honeymoon). I'll be done work by 2 then have the rest of the day to spend with hubs.

I hope everyone had a great weekend, love you hubs xoxo

NewB to blogging

So after about a year or so of reading different blogs and actively following a couple I decided to start my own. This is the perfect time to be starting a blog. I just got married on 07.10.10 and now that the wedding planning is over I'm finding myself to have a lot more free time and not knowing what to do with it. Hubs (my new husband) actually inspired me to start this blog. I'm sure I will have to remind him in a few months when he tells me I'm blogging to much that HE was the one who suggested I start blogging. I was a knottie on theknot.com and towards the end of wedding planning he was starting to bug me about how much I was on the site (for any other knotties out there you know how addicting it gets). I'm loving the newlywed life and can't wait to share details from the wedding on here as well as daily life as a NewB. Hope you all enjoy reading my blog and feel free to leave questions or comments for me. Thanks hubs for being my inspiration to start blogging. Love you xoxo
